Final Meeting of 2007

It was great that so many of you were able to make it to the last meeting of 2007! The Secret Santa gifts, the time to do whatever, the food and the fun are all parts of what make TAG one of the bests things about the library.

I appreciated the folks who got in the last few reviews and hope that TAG's voice will grow in 2007 - especially in suggesting materials for the library. We have our DVD list now and will start on books in January.

I hope everyone enjoys the winter break and gets a chance to catch up on some FUN reading! Happy Holidays to all!

Congrats and Ruminations

I heard that the program at K-High yesterday was quite a success. Congrats to Cameron and all the other TAG members who participated - and all the others who made it an excellent program as well!

Tomorrow will be the final TAG meeting of 2007, and I want to say it has been an amazing year. From our first meeting in June to the huge success of the Nightmare before Christmas program last week our TAG has truly shown that teens are a force to be reckoned with in Ketchikan.

I am very proud to be a part of TAG 2007 and look forward to the best of the old and a lot more new in 2008.

A Snow Day

Well, it is white out in Ketchikan. Days like today remind me I am an Arizona girl at heart. Hopefully though all the kids that are home today instead of in class are enjoying the weather more than I.

I wanted to take a moment and congratulate the TAG members who competed in the Academic Decathlon in Juneau earlier this month. Courtney, Morrisa and Amelia all did an amazing job! It is astounding to me how hard the AcDc team works on top of all their other school work, and I know it's hard I had one in the family. Congrats to all the rest of the AcDc team on their hard work also!

Hopefully TAG members will be able to make it safely to the library for the TAG Meeting on Sunday, and I will not flee for warmer places before then!

A Great Nightmare!

I hope everyone who came to the program on Friday had as good a time as I did! There was a great turn out, great food and great activities! The program was wonderful, especially the end of the evening charades! I'm glad you were all having fun, but it made it really hard to say it was 11:30 and we had to clear out. Each of you that came made this program a great success!
I want to thank Gayle for helping out as "designated grown up 2" (not that we did much grown up stuff ;) and Jennifier and all the TAG members who came early and set up, also to EVERYONE who grabbed a chair or some trash and helped up clean up! And thank you Damon for guessing my charade - that is NOT high on my skills list!
I hope that everyone who was there will be back for TAG's art program in January and for whatever we think up for programming next, remember YOUR suggestions are welcome too!

ITS TONIGHT

The Nightmare before Christmas @ the Library is tonight! Teens, bring some food (or not), wear a costume (or not) and join us for games, crafts, a movie and more downstairs at the library. From 7-11:30 TAG will be hosting the first holiday program for teens at the library. Hope to see lots of teens there!

KYI Expo and the Nightmare @ the Library

The KYI Expo last night was great! There were nearly a dozen youth oriented groups presenting and the organizational end of things was really on the ball! I loved that they had banners set for each group making it easy to set up and I'm sure really easy for the folks looking around. I truly want to thank KYI for letting TAG be a part of the Expo!

Now don't forget that the TAG program for teens - the Nightmare before Christmas @ the Library is tomorrow night. It will be in the downstairs portion of the library (we call it the annex) from 7:00 - 11:30 p.m. We will be watching the movie, of course, but there will also be a costume contest, crafts, and games. Bring some food to share and come have fun at the library!

Another Busy Day

TAG had a great meeting last night, lots of excellent reviews, some good ideas for DVD suggestions and a quick review of all the stuff coming up on TAG's schedule.
A reminder to everyone that the KYI Expo (please scroll down to see their ad) is tonight from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. I am always interested in what shows up at potlucks, it is always fun to try something new. And it will be really great to see some of what Ketchikan offers to the youth in the community. I hope to see lots of folks there!

T.A.G. Member Courtney Blogs

Last Tuesday, I made the presentation at the T.A.L.K. event. I felt that it was good to get TAG back out into the public’s knowledge and I really hope we garnish a few new members between not only T.A.L.K. but all the other public events TAG will be at this coming week. I got some feed back on Thursday. The superintendent, Robert Boyle, had apparently had a meeting with the librarians and he was quite pleased to have some background information on what TAG was. So, ha!! proof that someone was indeed listening to the presentations, and if nothing else one new person learned about TAG.

T.A.G. at KYI

After a great evening at the T.A.L.K. event I went happily to the planning meeting for the KYI Expo and was not disappointed. They also have a dynamic group and are wanting to show Ketchikan what possibilities there are in different activities. The Expo sounds like it will be a great event and T.A.G. will be present to show what we are offering to Ketchikan teens. We are hoping to see a bunch of teens and families there!

T.A.G. T.A.L.K.s

T.A.G. members will be among the many groups taking part in the T.A.L.K. (Teens and Adults Linking in Ketchikan) program tonight presented by PATCHWorks in the Kayhi Commons at 6:00 p.m. The discussion will be focusing on a "Safe Place to Gather" for Ketchikan's youth.
The Library is aware of the lack of spaces for teens in Ketchikan, our own "Teen Corner" is a pretty tiny space, though it is filled with excellent books. We have plans for a much bigger teen space in our new library - and are working hard toward that goal.
It will be great to hear what other groups are doing and planning. Hopefully we will have a productive evening, I am sure it will be interesting. Maybe we will see YOU there!
